Before we lead?

How is our leading of worship and music both honoring to God? What are some ways you are allowing Jesus to use your abilities to draw people unto Himself? When we seek the right things by faith in Jesus, we live by a new perspective that only He brings. Leading worship goes far beyond your music, skill and title. Where does it end? Before the Throne of God.

Where does it begin? As it did in the Beginning, God Himself. Worship begins and ends with God. He works through our hearts to align our posture, humility and wisdom. Jesus teaches us His ways and His paths. Psalm 25.5 says: “Guide me in your truth…” and in verse 9, “…and teaches them his way.” What is the way? Jesus.

Who’s Stage Is It Anyway?

It may be in your church. You may stand on it every week. You make music from it. Songs are led from it. You walk around on it. But how is your stage elevating the Gospel?

How are you using what God gave you, not to make great music, but to greatly help save souls? As worship leaders, are we seeking the platform of which He is to be praised – not seeking our own platforms? Are we focusing on the One who said “you shall have no other gods before me.” Psalm 81.9. Jesus said Himself, “…worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”

What is our response?

May we join the disciples in seeking His ways and walking in His ways to worship and to lead worship – by first starting with this simple plea to God: “…Lord, teach us to pray…” – Luke 11.1The posture of the heart is more important than the posture of the services. What does it mean to have a posture of the heart? Col1.10 says: “so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way” Eph4.1 tells us: “I, therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called,” Acts13.22 speaks of David by saying: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.”The posture of our heart also bends its knee to the Word. As we are led through the Holy Spirit, His word illuminates our minds and rules our hearts. Before we lead anyone in worship, we must be led in worship to God first.

Planning Center Online is your guide, not a God

Don’t let your worship be dictated by your plans of worship, but by the Word of worship. When we submit ourselves under Christ, the Father is well pleased with our worship. This is the kind of worship He is seeking John4.23. What other pattern of worship is there that can take the place of Christ?

He unites us together as One to presents us – unblemished, holy and reconciled to the Father. Worship is not contained to the set list. It is not confined to the bulletin. In fact, worship is an outflow of a person’s heart.

It’s not worked up, grieved nor obligated. Worship becomes an automatic response of gratitude of love and thanksgiving to God and His goodness. We plan our services with so many things, but where is the space, where is the silence in which we can hear God speak? When we say “Lord, teach us to pray,” are we really taking the time to do it by action, not by our words? Importantly, how are we living Jesus?

“Before worship is led, it must be lived.” @BranonDempsey

When did we get it all wrong?

When we put too much emphasis on how we worship, rather than Who we worship, our worship becomes misdirected and empty. So is there a right way for a person to approach God rightly? This is why we need our Jesus to come and teach us to pray, teach us to worship. There is a huge difference between leading worship by man, and leading worship through Jesus. We are to GO and meet with God, then GO and lead people to the Gospel. Jesus is the one to help teach us to pray, teach us to worship, teach us to live rightly to God and teach us to also be still and know.

Have we really lost our ability to inwardly meet with Him? I’m stripping everything away: your title, your position, your skill, instrument, whatever and truly have everything taking away – where it’s only you and God alone. What would you say? How would you respond? Even better, what would He say? How compassionately will He hold you and tenderly speak to you?The concept of “Be still and know that I am God” is still in the heart of the worshipper. The Holy Spirit needs to help wake us up so we can worship Him in the stillness and splendor. When we are still, we are better to learn what He speaks and teaches because our hearts are set on pause. When was the last time you were able to pause before God, to listen to what He speaks, to listen quietly to what the Holy Spirit says? After we hear God speak, what are we doing about it? Where are we going with it?

Not Pokemon Go Worship Leading

How are we really seeking Jesus? How are we truly leading people to be found by God, rather than just leading a pretty song? The Gospel is not a vacuum; He will accomplish his purposes and will not return to Him in vain (Isa. 55.1). So how are we joining Him by carrying the Message from our platforms and into our communities?

We are not to go and seek other gods, but to seek the One True God as we help lead others. Our job as Christians is to love people into the Kingdom.

How much more responsibility does He give us as leaders in the Church and leaders of worship?

What is our response?

Jesus calls us into His invitation of worship, this means we are to go and join Him and go to share Him with others. People are led in worship, not by what we play or sing, but by the music God makes within our lives. So how does our living reflect what we are singing?

As you lead worship today, begin first by asking Jesus to teach you to pray, teach you to listen, teach you to worship, teach you to lead. What you will find is God being larger than the four walls of your church. When you allow God to lead through you, you will see the work of His hands touching the hearts of the people.

He has come to heal the broken hearted, to receive the rejected and to save and feed  the hungry soul. So this week, make it your prayer to have Jesus come and teach you His ways and His paths. Make it more about His Kingdom, His Stage and less about the other things that are simply insignificant. @BranonDempsey @worshiptt
