Are You Satisfied?

2 min read

Do You Please People?

Are you concerned about what others think about your music during the service? Before you sing into the mike, do you pause with fearful hesitation? Do you look for that reassuring eye in the church or from your pastor, that everything is ok?
You’re not alone. However, when we go week to week, seeking the approval from others, it is because we feel like something is missing: confidence, trust, esteem, satisfaction and self-worth.

Let me just say this straight: if you are leading/making music for the approval of man, you will always be subjected to their measurements. Their criticisms will never be satisfied.

However, when you present your life, your music, your ministry as a living sacrifice to God, He will always satisfy. In living a life of worship, it is not confined to the notes on the page, or the way we lead on stage. Worship is an authentic response to who God is – according to Scripture – not according to what we do in a service – or anywhere  else in life.

Are You Satisfied?

When it comes to your position in the church, are you satisfied? As you think about your ministry, are you satisfied? You may sing, play piano, guitar, drums, bass or another instrument, what sense of satisfaction do you gain when creating music/art?
When it comes to our art, we seek a status, a quality and a anticipation of accomplishment. We honor God with our gifts. However, sometimes we can get lost in the creation of our art, and not pay attention to our Creator.

When it comes to worship, is it a separate issue – apart from your craft or art? In other words, when you make music, are you really, truly praising God, or is your music coming from an empty heart?

The notes you play, do they echo with a longing heart to be closer to God?

When you sing the words, are you really offering them to God as sung prayers?

You do so much in your ministry and/or in your weekly life, how are you allowing God to pour into you?

What fills you?

Out of all the music we can produce and give-out, how are we as musicians, taking in what God is wanting to give? Are we asking Him to fill us? Is it even a thought, or are we just going through the motions of music?

God desires to fill you with Himself, which is the ultimate fulfillment – here on earth. So what are you doing to ask Him to be filled? How are you giving yourself to Him as a living sacrifice?

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12.1

What is this filling? “… the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” John4:14.

When the Bible talks about water, it is identified to the Spirit. Living Water is referred to the Spirit of Christ. When we are filled with Christ in our lives, His Spirit overflows into every area of our heart, soul and mind, which should compel us to worship Him. It is a response. Isa55.1

Worship Is Not About Satisfying Ourselves

Worship is about the deep fellowship of God and experiencing the joy of His living praise. He pours into us His living waters as promised (John 4.14).

This gives us purpose, meaning and substance of worship because He satisfies us completely. This living water is too good to keep for ourselves. As a response, we must pour out waters of authentic praise and deep worship to God.

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John7.38

Another amazing insight of this true satisfaction of worship is what we give back to God. Jesus said, “the true worshipers shall worship and must worship in spirit and in truth.” All other emphasis and rituals are to be set aside to give way to meaningful worship.

Later in this Gospel John defines this spring, or river, as the gift of the Holy Spirit who would flow out of a person like “rivers of living water” (John 7:38).

Jesus promised an inflow into the believer that would become an outflow back to its source, and when the Spirit flows through us back to God it is worship at a priceless level.

Jesus also said: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matt5.6 We are already blessed because we thirst and receive His Spirit.

Does God Satisfy You?

We have to admit, our need is not physical, emotional, or intellectual. This leaves only our spirits; so we get onto our knees to pray and began to touch the presence of God.

This happened to me. Total satisfaction swept through my being. All along it had been my spirit yearning to contact God’s Spirit, and I had misread it as a craving in my soul or my body.

For the rest of the evening any music and any literature was enjoyable, for the deep crying of my spirit had been satisfied in God’s presence.

Hymn: Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
He is the only True Fountain we know and that truly satisfies. “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm90.14

Next time when you make music, make yourself a living sacrifice, so that your offering of music and the offering in your heart is pleasing to Him.
