Building On The Rock (Show #20)

#OnTheRock (Video Below)

#WorshipDevotional As worshipers, leaders and teams, our entire being is found in God, as we are the workmanship of Christ. The big picture isn’t about us, it’s about God. In our selfie-driven society, we can lose focus on Who should be the center of attention.

So when it comes to pursuing vision or accomplishing great things, are you building on sand, or building on the Rock? Brick by brick or paycheck by paycheck, we pour our time and sweat into building our earthly empires.

We can get so wrapped up in the actual process. We get hyper-focused on the WHAT we are building that we forget the WHO we are building something for. We need to stop and ask “who are we building this for? Me or is God asking me to build this?” In Revelation 1:8, God says that He is the Alpha and Omega, “who is, and who was, and who is to come.” Everything begins and ends with God. He is the all-Authority on everything.

Jesus spoke in Matthew 7 the parable of the wise man and the foolish man. Jesus said, “everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matt7:24) He compared wisdom in hearing God’s word to being wise house builder. We all know the popular children’s Bible song “The Wise man and the Foolish man.”

The wise man built his house on the rock and when the storms came, and the winds blew, his house stood strong. He had built his house and his empire, on God’s word. He had confidence in the Rock that he was building on. “My God is my rock…my stronghold.” -Ps.118.2 But the foolish man built his house close to the ocean on the sand. No doubt the sunsets were beautiful.

He had just a few steps to take whenever he felt like taking a swim in the ocean. But when the storms came and the winds blew, the foolish man’s house was quickly demolished because sand made an unreliable foundation. Think about your worship ministry. Which brick in your building needs to come down? What part of your foundation needs to be reset?

The challenge is not so much about building for this present age, it’s building for this present future. Who will take your place as a bricklayer? What is the legacy and story you are leaving for others? Ministry is about what you’re doing now that will impact lives later. You do not want to look back on your life to see a foundation with cracks.

You want to have a solid build that will last the test of time. What is this bedrock? People. Your family, friends, church and culture are the bricks in your ministry. Without them, your buildings are empty. Furnish them with love, care and grace, but they first must start with the right base-line.

Where are you building your house? What is the foundation of your empire? Is it His, or yours? The popular hymn, “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” says it like this: “My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

Build your house on the Rock that will be forever. God isn’t going away, He was, He is, and He is the future. -Rev.1.8 Our earthly castles made of bricks, stone and cement will fade away over time. 100 years from now, everyone reading this will be gone. So as we build our houses, churches, callings, careers and future, we need Jesus as our bedrock. The stability He provides keeps us grounded. Especially when the storms come and the heart rises, we can withstand the weather.

Keep God as the focus, by starting with the Rock as your foundation.
