The Highest Priority

How is God the highest priority of your life? Not a Sunday service, not a set list,  or anything else we can accomplish. How are you choosing God first before the music begins?

How we really think of God and his worship, or where we place our value of God, and believing in His will, work and precepts, is represented through our actions. Worship to God is the highest priority that one can ever have in their life.

What comes first in your life? Do you truly believe that you exist for the praise of God’s glory (Eph 1:12)? As the Westminster Confession states: Do you actually live as though your chief purpose is “to glorify God and enjoy him forever”?

We do not exist for ourselves. We do not exist for our own purposes, pride, ambitions and even dreams. As we seek His kingdom first He adds purpose, fulfillment and dreams to our lives when we properly and authentically align ourselves to His priorities.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

John 15:1-2 NIV

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:4-5 NIV

Therefore our response of worship should not be out of a selfish desire, to win God’s favor, our to accomplish a point system for getting what we want. Worship is about what He wants, not what we want. What God wants is all of our hearts, souls and minds, which is true and in alignment of his priorities so He receives all the glory – untethered by our own goals and objectives in life.

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.”

Hebrews 13:15 NIV

When we do bring ourselves into alignment of the Holy Spirit he cleans, prunes and heals through the forgiveness and unfailing love of Jesus. He truly satisfies all of our highest and deepest needs, no matter the darkest past, the failures, and the present turmoil, His love through us is His highest priority. Therefore, our highest priority is to fully give ourselves – all of ourselves to Him. When we do, we truly experience His unconditional and incomprehensible love. Isn’t that what you really want?

Then, as you encounter the Living God, the Grand Conductor and the Concert Master of your soul, let the music begin.

“…then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 NIV
