Sing Without Ceasing

11731632_10155786656035702_8091067101301537963_oHave you ever wondered what it would be like if everyone in your church sang? As a worship musician, singer and leader, even pastor, we all wish that our people would worship more in a service.

But what exactly does it mean to sing; and what keeps people from singing? There are various reasons: the band is too loud, they don’t like the music, it’s not their style or maybe…it has nothing to do with music at all. I think most of the problem is the lack of zeal and knowledge about singing.

The act of singing comes from the heart, not necessarily from skill. What comes from the heart (singing), comes from a deeper response, which is worship. #Psalm100.2 Most people think that singing is a gift or talent only for a selected few who possess a voice.

This is not universally true. If so, why would the word “sing,” or “singing” occur more than 200 times in the Bible? Singing is very important to God. He gave us 150 chapters of it called the “Psalms.” #Psalm96.1 says: Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.” – It doesn’t say to sing the same song over and over, nor is it sung by only a special group. #Psalm30.4 commands: “Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people – if we are children of God, then Scripture is talking about you and I.

We teach from time to time about worship in the church, but singing needs to be equally encouraged – if not, even more so. It’s also a cultural thing. Singing in other parts of the world is just as common breathing air. It’s in their heritage, way of life and church history. In the United States, singing is something more of an observation or performance, not necessarily something all people participate.

“I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my Go as long as I live.” #Psalm104.33 Personally, the Psalms is one of my favorite books because it’s God’s lyrical book to man. It’s also where we find raw emotion of the soul, true depths of the heart and joyful zeal of the spirit.

This portion of Scripture gives us a true blueprint of praise and how to live a life of worship. The Psalms also reminds us of the importance of singing. If you think you can’t sing, then you need to rethink what God says about singing. He is not interested in how good or bad we sound, He’s more interested in the condition of our hearts. #1Sam16.7 How can we help your church and worship team?

Get a #PowerWorkshop that includes worship/music practical hands-on training that comes to you: http://buff.ly/1VGo5sq The truth is, God gave each of us a voice: to speak, pray and sing. As leaders, we are to encourage the usage of our voices and to praise Him in song. Singing is good for the heart to release our emotions, and good for the soul to petition our prayers.

If your church has a choir, join it! Sing on the worship team! Sing from the congregation! If singing is something that is this important to God, then singing should also be important to us. To sing without ceasing is to pray without ceasing.
