#Creative

Word of the Week: “Creative”

Definition?

Relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work; having good imagination or original ideas.

Here is Your Verse of the Week:

Isaiah 45:18 (NIV)
For this is what the Lord says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.

Question of the Week?

2 Part Question:

1. What does it mean to be creative? 2. How do you lead a team of creatives?

Creativity at best was said it this way by Vincent Van Gogh “If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”

George Washington Carver said: “When you can do a common thing in an uncommon way; you will command the attention of the world.”

Drawing from these two statements, it tells me that creativity starts with having a voice, something to say. It may be bold, humble, strong, or maybe even so simplistic that it stands out to you because it has something to say.

Creativity is nothing man has designed, but something God made. When we read the Bible, the first thing we see is “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Ge. 1.1

That my friend is the most purist and simplistic display of creation the world has ever known.

God imparts creativity, ideas and inspiration to His people. So the question is: what are we doing with it, and how are we helping others?

Our Worship Team Training University Members KNOW …..

Creativity is something that is both given and to be given-away. In other words, when we receive from the Lord, we give by the Lord.

If God gave you a voice to sing, a skill to play an instrument, a skill to paint, write, produce or engineer, then it is actually His gift to be shared with you and to be shared to others.

The art you create is a blessing to be enjoyed by the Church and the world in need of the Messiah. So now, how are you sharing that gift God put inside of you?

In my younger years, I painted, colored, played drums, keyboard and guitar like there was no tomorrow. Even to this day, I constantly drum and strum out music from the coffee table to the turn tables. Even our sons have the bug.

Our four year-old races to his room everyday after Kindergarten to set up his tuperware boxes and plastic plates and goes for it! Our eight year-old hunts after nature to take pictures and loves putting together lego videos.

Creativity is all around us, but helping to inspire that flame of creativity to help others starts with you and me.

At every Weekend Workshop here at Worship Team Training, I always speak about creativity and how to lead creatives.

Leading a team takes a lot of work, building a creative team takes a lot of beating. You may ask, well, how do I find creatives in our church?

It’s not hard. Just like oldest son enjoying nature, all you have to do is open your eyes and look around.

One thing I do to is get to know people. Find out where they work, their hobbies, past-times and so-forth. But keep in mind, this is not about recruiting people – leading a team of creatives is not the same thing, as much as it is learning how to inspire your team.

So get to know them, find out what makes your people tick. Send them a link of a favorite article or book that you find in common. Make time to take your team to a field trip downtown to watch a small jazz combo, or visit the museum of fine arts; even better, venture into your own retreat outside of town.

Send texts and notes to your team members to let them know how much you appreciate and enjoy them. Let them hear how they are making an impact with their art. Don’t be afraid to challenge them to go to the next level, push their own threshold, and of course, be daring to fail.

Much of the time, you will learn that creativity and leading creatives becomes an art within itself.

Importantly, as committed Worship Team Training leaders, you will find that the art of the Gospel message sings its way into the heart of your congregation.

While spurring on your brothers and sisters to aim and shoot higher, you are being the catalyst God is using to set your ministry on fire.

So let that fire burn and see what the Holy Spirit inspires in your team, your church and in you.

Further Questions:
What is a creative? How do you know you or someone you know is a creative?
What are the needs of creatives for your ministry?
What type of environment works best for a creative?
Who, in the Bible, is an example of a creative?
Are there any exclusive struggles or anything that creatives are more prone to struggle with?
