Leaders, Ministry Leadership, Worship Leading

10,000 Minutes of Worship

Message_2_June_2016#10080Worship
For leaders of worship and ministries there are two views of the stage. The view on-stage shows how you lead worship during those 80 minutes. The view off-stage, shows how you live life during the 10,000 minutes. If a person were to view all sides of the stage, would they see one consistent picture, or would they see disconnected images?

The way we engage God on a daily basis has everything to do with how we live worship. Life is not about living perfect, but it is about His perfected love living through us, and how we respond to Him and others through daily living. We either live through Christ, or fake it through the flesh. Some don’t like to look at themselves in the mirror.

They see their scars, insecurities and failures. They also wonder if other people see them too. Regardless, God sees every side of us as the same – the image of being His child.

How you spend the 10,000: is based on you living out what you believe. It’s more than what you sing on Sunday, its the trenches you live in Monday through Saturday. To know God is to worship Him, to worship God is to know Him. As we learn to know Him, we also become more and more like His Son.

Our reflection of Christ is found in the “will” of what we do as a response through daily obedience, which leads to God honoring worship. “study to practice in life that which the Lord commands, and then be you assured that you shall never hear nor read the same without fruit.” – John Knox The worship and study of God’s word and show yourself approved (2Tim 2.15). By understanding His nature is to know His character: the love of God and to exalt His worth. To know His worth is to explore, discern and worship the Triune God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). This knowledge, which only comes from God, frees us from redundant worship, and mundane life.

Our vision is then lifted beyond our experiences as we fix our eyes on the One who desires us to know Him intimately and to live in this consistency. Then we have something to truly sing about. “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered.” – Psalm 71.23 As you worship according to the Word, you dispel lukewarm, shallow and vain traditions taught by men. The worship of the Scriptures truly sets the prisoner of falsehood free. For God is not the Author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33).

With all my heart, I believe this… The best worship leaders are the ones who live out what they sing. God has not called the perfect, His called the broken. Worship takes on a whole new meaning when you allow God to heal the broken parts. When He wipes away every tear and stain, you begin to see the love of God more clearly in your life. You also begin to see clearly in the mirror who He is making you to be: like Jesus.

How you lead the 80: is based on allowing God to flow through you. Leading worship is not about you, but about the Holy Spirit using you to lead others. Transparency. People see it when you lead.

They either see the hardship or the veneer. Leading worship is not to be a model or display of a polished life. If God tells us that He desires a contrite and broken spirit, then why do we want to look something different? This goes back to not liking what you see in the mirror. Psalm 51‬.17 “My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.” ‪- ‎Isa 65‬.14  How much more we can sing as leaders? We lead out of brokenness and point to the One who heals and forgives. This is true leading, that stems from true living.
