You’re Not A Weekend Worshiper

5-15-16#WorshipGod24-7

Worship is a way of living, in which we bring all things into the captivity and obedience of Christ, unto God in worship. Is it only one day out of the week where you feel more spiritual; but what about the rest of the week when it may not seem so easy?

Worship is more than one day, it’s twenty-four seven. Worship is not just a time in which we drop everything and leave it all behind to God for a feel-good experience. Worship is life, it’s a response and its following the ways of God.

A life of a worshiper is to bring all things into the captivity and obedience of Christ, which includes our bodies as being living sacrifices. (2 Cor 10.5 and Rom 12.1-2)

Seven Is Better Than One
You’ve done your job during the week, now it’s time to get into holy mode and worship. You’ve done your holy mode, now it’s time to get back into the work week. Which mode best describes you? Why do we tend to separate our actions of worship in church from our lives of worship in being the Church.

Just because we are outside of the four walls of Monday through Saturday, doesn’t mean we stop being worshipers. That’s like saying, your day job is being part of a Medical Emergency Team, yet when you clock out, you’re no longer a rescuer.

Last I checked, EMT workers are always ready to save lives. 2 Cor. 6.4 declares: “In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God.” We can take a day off from work, but why would we want to take a day off from being a servant/worshiper of God?

Our relationship with God is not a hat we wear, or a clock to punch-in and out. In every way we show we are true ministers. Praise be to Jesus, that He does not show Himself as being a half-way God. Worship beings with God, not with us.

He was in the beginning of Creation and He is the End. He is the First who created light and the Last who paid the penalty for our sin and rose again. Since God is the Initiator, we are His respondents. There’s no way to contain life with God in one day, just as there is no way to contain Him in seven. So how are we living each moment?

You Are His Living Testimony
He may have gifted you to sing, create music, paint, film, record, preach or teach, but what does your art say about Him? The message God put inside of you is to tell the same Gospel story of how He saved you, how He raised you and continues to use you today.

You are not just a number in your team. You are a team of one. We are reminded by the words of Paul in Gal 6.17: “From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.” It is through peace and mercy that we are to love one another, to walk together as a unit. It’s not about you or I; but through God, it does begin with you and I. We are to do His work and that work takes place daily among people.

Look at your relationships: those you speak with daily, those you work besides and those who are among you in culture. Where you go and what you do is visible by all. How are we showing ourselves to be true disciples of Jesus and not just weekend worshipers?

Are You Sharing Your Assignment?
You don’t need a T-shirt to say to people what you believe. If God was to make a T-Shirt of those who do what He says, would it bear your name? I thank Jesus that through Him, I am accepted and bear His name, even in spite of myself: “However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.” 1 Pet. 4.16. God gave you and I an assignment. Are we living it, most of all, are we sharing it?

As worshipers and leaders of worship, in the most real way of sharing our assignment is found in the most real way of loving people. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13.35 How critical is this for those of us in any form of leadership position?

His assignment is to love God first above all things and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Again, God does not take a day off, neither does He withhold His love from us.

When we learn to follow His life, we learn how to lead worship. This is why and how our leading goes way beyond our music, the four walls and even ourselves.
