We Glorify Your Name (Show #83)

#WeGlorifyYourName (Video Below)

What’s In A Name?

“Who do you say I am?” (Mark 8.29). As worshipers and worship leaders, how are we directing our praise to God? Are we careful to consider the Name of whom we glorify, and careful to live the words we sing?

A name is something that everyone has in common – everyone has a name. Names help to identify who people are, and last names help to identify family history. Your name is a vital part of who you are and where you came from. There is One Name, however, that is far above higher than any other name. This is a Name that we worship.

We lift high His Name. We pray to God in the Name of His Personhood – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is power in His name. How is His power working through you, so when you speak and sing His name it becomes more than just a song or just a prayer? This week we’re going to be looking at the Names of God, and why His Name is the only name that is worthy of our worship. Who do you say He is and how are you giving worship unto His Name?

There is power in the Name of Jesus!

WATCH SHOW #83!

Jesus – The Name That We Worship One of the favorite themes that worship songwriters like to use is to focus one of the many names for God. This is a useful songwriting technique, and it is also something that is unique to Christian songwriting. The Bible gives us so many different names for God – Savior, Emmanuel, Rock, Shepherd, Father, and the list can go on and on.

One example of this is our theme song for the week by Hillsong called “We Glorify Your Name”. In this song, the verses highlight the different names for God: Verse 1: Maker of the heavens Master of the seas Mover of the mountains Majesty Verse

2:
Awesome God in power Author of my life All consuming fire Alive alive The chorus is a response of worship to who God is based on His Name: Chorus: We glorify Your Name We glorify Your Name We glorify Your Name In all the earth (in all the earth)

“He shall glorify me” – John 16:14 Webster’s Dictionary defines glorify as: “to praise to celestial glory…to give glory as (in worship).” When Jesus affirmed that the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian would, indeed, glorify or worship Jesus through us.

This is not only a declaration of what will be, but a promise of His indwelling presence. When it comes to worship, this passage should remind us that we are not alone.

Even in giving God praise, we are not by ourselves. Worship does not depend on us, nor is it determined by us. We can rest on God, as worship belongs to Him. Take this concept in the means of leading worship.

If worship belongs to God, the Holy Spirit is the one who leads us into His rest. As we are drawn to worship Him, we help draw others into what the Spirit of God is already doing. As we glorify the Lord, we are giving Him praise for all His acts.

“Don’t just lead worship, live worship” @BranonDempsey

Glorifying Him is so much more than leading songs

Do NOT get trapped up into the thought of “I’ve got to get people to sing.” – This is nothing what Jesus wants or indicated as in John 16.14 as well as John4.24. The Father is Spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth – for these are the kind of worshipers the Father is seeking (John 4.23, 24). Negative thoughts about our leading, playing or singing is not from the Spirit of Truth, but from the father of lies (John 8.44).

You belong to the Father of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Be in worship first, before you lead others by His name.

Not Leading worship, but living worship. “Glorify the Lord with me, let us exalt His name together.” – Psalm 34.3 We sought the Lord and He found us. He finds us in all of our days. To glorify the Lord is to magnify the biblical reality of Who God is. Maker of all, Rescuer and Strong Tower. His name alone stands strong as He is our Rock and Salvation.

Let this be your basis for not only leading worship, but living worship. Do not give your praise to another – nor your regrets, loss hopes or failures. God glorifies Himself through us, so does he shine through our darknesses, heals our brokenness and restores our faith. Isn’t this something worth glorifying/singing about?

It is about Who God is. Lead your people in the Truth (of His word) and in the Spirit (who is Christ). Do not lead out of the fear of man, but only by the fear of God – as He is the Beginning and End of all things, even when it comes to worship.

In the Name of Jesus When you lead worship, make it about His name and His power. Have God make your leading about Him; lead from His foundation. Allow the Holy Spirit to move within you to guide others into the rest of His worship. Also, be in worship first, before you lead others by His name.
