Fork In The Road

3-30-16 devo#3-30-16 #TheRightRoad #WorshipDevotional In the life of being a worshiper, we can trust God that He knows which way is best. All roads may lead to Rome, but not all roads lead to God.

how are you making the right road choices in your ministry? Prov 12.28 reminds us: “In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.” We can take any road, we can take any advice, but which one is the right way? Which road leads you to the life-promises of God?

The Tough Road
This pebbled road is the one that says “You can’t do it.” “Give up!” This direction ultimately leads us down a path of doubt, fear and depression. Filled with rocks, obstacles and loose gravel, we lose our step at each turn. We become tired in our faith, as well as tired of the terrain. The negative voices and thoughts tell us lies of failures. Eventually, we become so bombarded that we give up. The road becomes too rocky, our view becomes too dark. How do we get back on the right road? Psalm 119.105 says: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Here, we are to go to the Word of God.

Find the light of the Lord, ask Him to guide our feet. He comes and lights our paths back to Him. We need to have watchful ears, to keep us from the negative thoughts and avoid gravitating to the words of opposing voices. Psalm 119.101 encourages us to listen to the right voices: “I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.”

The Easy Road
This road is the one of steel, strength and shine; it also is the path of pride. It’s the “I-Got-This” road. We cruise carelessly without concern. We feel pumped and fueled-up, yet we do not realize the holes of arrogance in our tires and gas tanks.

Eventually, we find ourselves in need of road-side assistance. Proverbs 19.2 implores us to know the right way, before we make a move. It says: “Desire without knowledge is not good– how much more will hasty feet miss the way!” We can be filled our own self-interest, conceit and hurbis, that we fail to see the wisdom that can save our souls. Proverbs 13:20 gives us another view of the road; it tells us: “He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools.” Proverbs 9.6 is another companion that says: “Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.” This road may seem easy, but it’s bitter end is death (Prov 14.12).

The Narrow Road
This path is the one that’s right in front of you. It’s not glaring at you in the shine of it’s narcissism, nor is it hidden from all the rough terrain of rocks and dead trees. It’s the clear path that God has been speaking about the entire time. This path is the one of peace. Indeed, it posses the challenge of distance and need for endurance, yet it yields the grace of the God and strength by the Holy Spirit.

It has a narrow entrance; not many are willing, yet everyone is able through Jesus. Remember our Lord telling us that He is the Gate, that He is the Way? He says in John 10.9, He says: “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”

He is our Guard, our Gate, our Shield of protection.

He filters out every impurity, so it does not come to our ruin. He is our Defense against the Enemy that wants to smash our doors and take us down. He is our shield, the God Most High as seen in Psalm 7.10: “My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.” We have no other refuge and way other than the Lord.

Our walk begins by going through the Gate of Jesus first. Once we begin this path, we are set free from the misery of the road blocks and burdens. He comes and makes our load light (Matt 11.30). Patience is found on the very path God has called you. This is where we find peace in the journey.

Yes, we still need to walk it and use muscle to get us there. However, we are never without His wisdom to guide us and His mercy to see us through – especially in our times of weakness.

What’s Your Road?
When you walk the roads of rock or the roads of steel, we see how the destructive to the soul they can be. All along, God whispers to our ears to make the right decision, to walk through the right Gate in order to be on His path. Each of us face our choices of many roads, but how are you listening to the right call? God has called you to something bigger than this, and the road may seem long. Are your dreams as big as what God has in mind?

Don’t you think that if He implanted those big dreams inside your soul, he also has given you the ability to walk them / live them? You will encounter challenges everyday that may tempt you to wonder if you are on the right path. Don’t give up. Never, never give up. [ctt template=”10″ link=”4D31c” via=”no” ]Listen to the One who knows every path; stay patient and persistent.[/ctt]

We have these Scriptures to keep us fixed on the right direction: “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Cor 4.17 “I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.” Psalm 119.32 “You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.” 2 Sam 22.37

Reflection
What are the roads that God is calling you to leave? How can the grace and mercy of Christ move you beyond what seems so terrible and into His perfect light? Can you turn your attention to listen to the voice of God? Let Him move your feet beyond what you think is impossible, while allowing Him to do the possible.
