River Deep

As a worship leader, what goals are you setting for this year? What scares you the most in making these decisions? It’s either sink or swim. However, if you stand still for too long, the rising waters will force you to a make a choice to survive. What are the Jordans in your life God is calling you to cross?

2017 is no different from Joshua 1.1-17. Life is full of rivers. We stand on one side of the river seeing one thing, looking across we see another. It may not be time to stand any longer on the shore when God is calling you to trustfully step into the waters.

Prepare not for you, but what God will do.

The task of actually crossing the river is easy, what’s more difficult is living on this side of the bank. God has not called you to stay and complain. The grass is not always greener on the other side; it just means you need to water your lawn. (This was said by a dear friend and mentor.)

If you are anxious to cross the river, don’t spoil your time on this side of the river by complaining about it and resenting being on this side of the river. You do these two things: prepare what you have on this side of the river and don’t neglect the job He has called you to do.

Prepare yourself to be ready when God calls you to step into the water. Go deep and go learn. Spend time in prayer and seek the Lord’s will. Humanly, there are no promises we can keep.

It’s Time To Go

In Josh 1.11 God told Joshua to go and reminded him of His provision in Josh 1.13. When God calls us to do something, He gives us everything we need. God told Joshua He would give him a place of rest and the land across the river.

As we cross our rivers, we too need to be reminded: He’s not brought us this far to let us down. Deut 2.7 says, “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness.

These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.”
We can trust in Him and rest in His promises. As our song this week “This We Know” reminds us: This we know We will see the enemy run This we know We will see the victory come We hold on to every promise You ever made Jesus You are unfailing

Knee Deep

The triumph we find in our challenges and conflicts is the ability to discover that we can truly do all things in Christ who gives us strength (Php. 4.13).  Apart from Him we are nothing (John 15.5). He alone is to be feared, not the deep waters and rough tides that surge at our feet (Isa 41.10). When you’re knee deep, you realize very quickly it’s either sink or swim.

As we seek Him first, He surprises us by His will. Even when we pass through the waters, we see the beauty of God: He is always moving forward, even when it seems like we are standing still. The best part is that He is right there with us in the water.

The Other Side

Before we know it, we reach the shore line…and there are still more blessings to come. God is always faithful, and if He calls you to cross the river, He will see it to completion (Php 1:6).  When we are faithful to Him, and obedient to what He asks us to do, the benefit of that is the blessing of God.
