Change Your Mindset (Part II): Ministry Led By God | Ep. 223

Take Charge of What God Gives You

Failure can be one of the best victories because it causes you to grow. It's through the tough times that God shapes your personal outlook. When you build life and ministry by His standards, you learn to take better charge of what He gives you. And through His great work, you will be met by a spiritual purpose.

Next Thursday Guests:
David Chadwick
Lion and Bear

In today’s session, we will cover:
- Boundaries
- Opinions of others
- Responsibilities
- Real Purpose
- Collaboration

When I started out...
Was at the church all the time
Led everywhere I could
Lived in every ministry

but...
I had no life of my own
Always cared about what others think
Surrounded my life with people to tell me what to do
Wasted time, energy and family - all for the sake of "being" a minister
...or a good Christian

This is not true ministry
This is not real life

Point 1
Purpose: is here your ministry is grounded
* Not based on your idea
* Not directed by the whims of people
* Not held hostage by complaints
* Not based on unnecessary drama of others

Balance the needs for others and knowing what to do is best

Learn to embrace change, even when others don't approve

Point 2
What your responsible for
    - Base your ministry on Jesus / not what other's think
    - People will always drama
    - Let them say it & have humility
    - Followup with grace
    - Develop boundaries for responsibilities

What you can change
    - Your perspective / outlook
    - New areas to grow
    - Your behavior, by keeping integrity
    - Your confidence to move forward
    - Develop boundaries for change

Scripture: Exodus 9:16

Point 3
Collaboration:
If you want to go fast, you go by yourself. If you want to go far, you have to go together

Collaboration is everything
But if you lone-ranger it, you lose everything
Throw your ego out the door
All the team players are standing inside

Point 4
Surround yourself with people
Who know more than you
Who care more than you
Who are better than you
Who are smarter than you

When I was 25, I was leading worship when it was weird.
No one knew what they were doing.
I didn't even know.
So I began to show my ignorance
By asking questions

Point 5
You need to change, not your people
- If you find yourself frustrated
Start caring more for people

If you do it together you achieve it better
- Don't be the first one with the idea
- Let the team float, let it hang in the air
- There are no dumb answers
- There is no one-way

If you don't like the way others do things
- You short change yourself
- You don't like something about yourself
- You disregard the need for other's to grow
- You elevate yourself

You slap in the face
those who were older than you
Who took their time
To teach you things
That you didn't know
And you still haven't learned them yet

Conclusion
Adjust the way...
You listen to others
You think / edit your brain

Change your focus
Concentrate on differing ideas
Challenge your orthodox
Be amazed at what God does through them

Exercise your legs to run farther with your team
Do the hard work
Swallow your pride
Forgive yourself
Show grace to others
Learn that you don't need to be the smartest
