Bruce Dickinson Says: “Explore the space baby!” Ep. 220

Musical Social Distancing

SHOW NOTES:

Bruce Dickinson says: “Explore the space baby!” Ep. 220

“Don’t Stand So Close to Me” by The Police is one of my favorite songs, little did we all know that the title of this tune would take on a whole new meaning for 2020.

When it comes to music, we could all be standing too close to each other.

Let’s take the 6 feet measure of social distancing and apply it to 6 steps for making music that is clean, clear and with good musical spacing.

Bruce Dickinson (Christopher Walken) had it right - "Explore the Space!!"

In today’s session, we will cover:
* Knowing the roles of your band
* Eye Contact and The Lie
* Ear Contact and The Truth
* Let the Vocals Lead
* Explore the Space

Point 1
Know the Roles of Your Band
* Who are they and what do they play?
* What are their skills?
* Do you know what they listen to?
* Do you know what they are to play?

* What is their primary role? Learn
* How do they adjust to another? Understand
* How do they create groove? Listen
* How do they stay out of the way? Patience

Scripture: Proverbs 27:23

Point 2
Eye Contact and The Lie
* There is no substitute for the visual
* IEM's are great, but they can't see
* Arrange your band so each member can see each other
* Don't lie to your ears
* Visual is also Audio contact

Psalm 119:18

Ear Contact and The Truth
* Dail in according to the instrument's role
* Listen to the essential timing and pulse - it's everything
* Follow the vocal melody - they lead.
* Listen in-between the musical gaps
* Play less, not more

The truth?
* Don't be heard
* Don't be seen
* Listen more than you play
* Let the groove be clean

Scripture: Mark 4:9

Let the Vocals Lead
* Singers have eye-line-site
* Stagger your positions to sing
* Listen more than you sing
* Let the leader lead
* Lean on the band

Explore the Space
* Simplicity
* Listen more
* Contribute, Not Contriving
* Follow the vocal melody
* Compliment each other

Philippians 2:3

Conclusion
Have musical respect for each other
Have a common goal
Enjoy the worship through music
Keep it simple and joyful
