The Gift Giver

5-11-16#GodsWill #GiftGiver

Talent and skill are important but they are not at the center of our worship. God wants us to perfect our gifts but we need to worship the Giver of the gifts, not the gift itself.

When we position ourselves towards God’s will, instead of our earthly gains, that is when we can enter into a deeper relationship with our heavenly Father. -Ps.119.36 God wants us to practice the talents He’s given us and spend time perfecting them into actual skill to be used for the Kingdom.

Building skills in our unique talents takes time. Are you willing to patiently wait and keep working at the gifts God has given you? As our skills increase, we may want to take ownership of our skills, and momentarily think the gifts are from our own doing.

We can lose sight of Who is accomplishing the work through us. It is God who works through us to equip and to accomplish His purpose. -Phil.2.13 We are each given a certain set of talents to fulfill a unique purpose for God. Some may have the gift of creating a great audio mix. Others may have the gift of beat and tempo. Regardless of what skill God gave you they need refining and practicing.

No one wakes up one day, decides to play guitar, and then their fingers start perfectly moving across the strings. God-given talents just don’t work instantly like that. How do we prayerfully grow in areas we feel called as Worship Leaders?

1 Ask God to give you wisdom and knowledge about your instrument.
“Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” (James1.17) Our gifts are not our own, so it only makes sense to ask the Giver of the gifts for an instructional manual, right?

Ask God to further equip you for the work of the Kingdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all.” (James1.5) Have faith that God will give you the skills necessary to carry our His will.

2 Be patient while you grow in skill.
Practice takes time, and practice makes better. Remember perfection of your instrument isn’t the end goal. It’s bringing your best to God and glorify Him through worship. “Make a joyful noise” (Ps.100.1) doesn’t mean it’s got to be pitch perfect. Joyful noises start in our heart, and come out through our instruments. Make the focus God, and give Him your practice time.

Continue to serve Him with a joyful heart. –Ps.100.2 Often by doing God’s will, even when we don’t feel like it, we gain the desire to further do God’s will. [ctt template=”10″ link=”aaIA5″ via=”no” ]Be obedient to what God is calling you to do and be patient through the process.[/ctt]

3 Realize there is always more to learn.
You have never arrived at the top. Even professional musicians practice and continue to stretch themselves to learn new things. To be like Christ, we need to practice thinking like Christ. [ctt template=”5″ link=”P62b1″ via=”no” ]Keep your focus on God and allow Him to move and work through you.[/ctt]

He will grow your abilities as you lean into Him. God wants us to become closer to Him through our gifts. But our relationship is not with the talents but rather with the Gift Giver. Worship through the practice time, and allow God to shape your heart first.
