Singing In The Storms

3-16-16 devo3-16-16 #WorshipDevotional #Cornerstone Our anchor holds within the veil. No matter the wind, no matter the storm, He is Lord of all, our Cornerstone.

The Father holds everything together; the Holy Spirit sings over us with songs of deliverance. How can the song of His salvation move you closer into His hands, where you see Him alone as Almighty God?

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,” – Heb 6.19 “He wills that we be as free as birds to soar and sing our Maker’s praise without anxiety.” – A.W. Tozer We think it’s strange to sing when we face the waves of adversity.

However, there is something powerful in the way that God uses melodies and lyrics to calm our hearts.

I think back to hurricane Katrina and other storms of past. In the constant wind and rain, our house was battered around like a sack of potatoes. Throughout the night, the wind raged at about a consistent 100 mph.

It definitely was no kite flying weather. James reminds us to “count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds.” -James 1:2 When we are hit with trials, coming from all directions, joy may be the last thing on our minds. But true joy isn’t a fleeting emotion.

Joy in Jesus gives us security beyond anything the world can offer. We can rest in the comfort of that Jesus has overcome temptation and death. Any sadness or trials will disappear and you “will be filled with joy and gladness.” -Isaiah 35:10 How often the world tries to batter us, we hear the faithful words of David in the Psalms. David knew the power and refuge that is found in worship.

In fact, this is why God gave worship as the first commandment: to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind above all and to have no other gods (Mt. 22.38). The Lord gave us this commandment so that we may focus on Him alone above all things, as he becomes the object of our praise.

Even in the midst of the storms, the God of whom we worship prevails. David says here: “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” – Ps. 32.7 The writer of the famous hymn “Cornerstone” states: “When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil.” God’s love, grace, and mercy is unchanging. Circumstances vary and situations alter, but God is constant, unwavering, and unchanging.

Even in the midst of our trials and personal storms of life, God is still present. Our hope in Him the anchor in our soul. God is firm and unshakable. -Hebrews 6:19 This song always provided me a voice to sing to God in times of trial.

The melody of this song evoked my emotions, as it also guided my faith to be fixed again on the eyes of Jesus. How awesome it is to be reminded of His unfailing love as we sing or hum songs of comfort. [ctt template=”10″ link=”Zd21q” via=”no” ]Even when our emotions leave us weary, God uses them to guide our praise towards Him.[/ctt] In turn, we experience His faithful care – He truly is the Lifter of our heads.

He picks up the weary. He gives them rest and a renewed strength. -Isaiah 40:30 We need not to pretend, nor should we allow circumstances to boundary our praise. It is true that sometimes it’s easier to praise/sing in some settings than in others.

Yet, when God finds us in worship, He frees us from our anxieties and bondage. We honor God who transcends our boundaries, trials and surroundings that disappoint us.

Sing to the One who is mighty to save; sing to the One who is worthy of worship. In the power of His might, we find the strength to praise Him in song, prayer and in quietness – even during the storms.   Reflection: How can God use the beauty of song to lift your soul above what surrounds you? Isaiah 55:6 says: “seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while He is near.” When God finds you in worship, what song of deliverance do you call to Him. What kind of song, does He sing back – over you? @BranonDempsey  @worshiptt
