Word of the Week: Consider | 6-10-18

#Consider

Word of the Week: “Consider”

Definition?

Think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision

Think about and be drawn toward (a course of action)

Here is Your Verse of the Week

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.” (Phil 2.3)

Question of the Week

How do you consider what is better for the congregation, over your own needs? Where is the fine line between how you consider what is best for you and consider what is best for the congregation?

Consider

Our Worship Team Training University Members KNOW …..

When we consider God first, our priorities will flow from that premise. As we put others first above ourselves, we are also honoring God who is above all things.

So how does this fit / what does this look like in your church and in the way you lead worship?

Consider. It’s almost a lost value and character trait among the present “Me” generation. We see the self-promotion, entitlement and over-hyped talk about things of the world and things of man. When it comes to the church, because we are also human, we make it about ourselves too.

We don’t mean to do it, but we do. However, considering doesn’t necessarily mean that we will act out on what we know is right or on good faith. Sometimes we just sit and consider. So when do we act on what is right?

One Sunday morning I had all the right songs. The right singers, the right musicians and the right audio preparation. It was almost too perfect. Then suddenly, she came in.

Rosie Maxwell Marie, who was in her 80’s and walked right up to me and said, “So are we going to sing some Hymns today?” – Sound familiar?

But she had a point. Was her point to hurt me under the blade of “you better do my hymns or else…”? Was her point about maybe what she was personally going through? Did she have a point at all?

In recognizing the awkward moment I was in, I took a step back. After taking a deep breath, I was remembered something that wasn’t quite right. Then I thought, “wait a minute, God’s got this.”

Peering down through her blue-horn-rimmed glasses, she was waiting for my answer. Looking up at her I said, “you bet Rosie! And better than that, we’re going to worship.”

She did not seemed convinced of lack-of-salesmanship. What Rosie did not know, was that we already had two hymns in the service. One was on the upfront as a fast opener, the other was at communion.

When the service began and the lyrics hit the screen, the music and voices in the room, opened wide the church ceiling. I have never heard the church sing that loud in my life.

So what happened? It was so something small, but yet, meant something so huge. It was the act of consider.

When we put the praise of God first, the worship of man has no song to sing. When we eliminate the pounding rhythms of pride, our selfish hearts can’t even keep a beat. When we love on others greater than ourselves, we take our place in the symphony of unity.

Some of your friends may think it is strange, but what do you think?

We can toy around with all of our musical gadgets, dream up the most song-delicious menu and swing around in our stage-light candy, but if we do not have love, we are just a clanging cymbal.

Love considers. Action models character. Unity promotes peace. Humility sings worship.

What are you doing – that considers other people – the congregation first, before yourself?

From the keys we choose to sing, to the style of songs we play; from the conversations around us, to the people who live among us, we should consider.

So before you plan your set this week, rehearse your worship team and lead worship at your church, consider what is most important to God and what is important to His people. When you and I do, we are no longer leading songs, we are edifying the church. We took the time to consider others, as it brings a whole wealth of worship to God – who we consider most.
