Stop Playing Worship Referee | @BranonDempsey Episode 194

You Can't Force Worship.
Are They Really Worshipping?

WHY ARE THEY NOT SINGING?

You see it every week and may know every person, who doesn’t look like they are worshiping. No matter how are you try – it seems that it’s not working. What do you do? Stop trying. My story began before I gave up.

WHO IS THE WORSHIP REALLY FOR?

When we look at our people, we desire to see them worship the Lord.

But what happens when they don’t – or how are you sure they are not? When we look at the Bible, do we see the people of God forcing worship? Yes 1Sam 6

When we see God in the Bible, do you see Him forcing it, or forcing us?

David’s praise to God in Psalm 103.1 looks like more of a response, than a compulsion: “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name” (Psalm 103:1)

Romans 8:15 (NIV) The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”Hebrews 12:28 (NIV) Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe – Psalms 81:9 (NIV) You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me.

WHY DO WE FORCE OURSELVES

Who was hard on you?

What was it that someone said, that made you feel a certain way?

Who’s expectations are you trying to gain?

How does this make you feel?

ARE WE REALLY FORCING OUR PEOPLE

It only makes things harderthe pressure is too greatit puts a burden on the worship teamyou’re not really confident as much as you are compulsive – to make everything work

WHY SHOULD IT MATTER TO YOU

The people in your church should matter to you, but if the people in your church are not worshipping it’s a matter for God.Know your flocks: Proverbs 27:23 (NIV)

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; Why it’s a Matter for God: 2 Timothy 2:19 (NIV)

Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”Why we are not the worship referee: 1 Samuel 2:3 (NIV)

“Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.

Who is our worship for and what is our role Psalms 100:3 (NIV)

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

ABOVE ALL:

Worship is for God, not for us. He invites us in His worship to enjoy him, with our brothers and sisters in fellowship. The result of a worship service is not given a grade, it does not earn us a status, it does not merit us more grace of favor.

The worship of God does only one thing: places the highest priority on the LORD God Almighty, where there are no other gods before him, Who is above all things and to Whom is worthy of all worship.
