Dumpster Fire, Crawling Out & Coming Up For Air

Three Lessons I've Learned (still learning)

Branon Dempsey / Message me: branon@worshipteamtraining.com

It was a rough 2020, and hard to believe it's now 2021. Some are in the fire of pressure and have been knocked down and lost hope. Some have gone into quarantine, some like myself, have been isolated. But despite the flames around us, there is the opportunity to see purpose. Because when you have purpose, you understand that the fire was part of the plan to refine you as gold.

I will share what I've learned for those still in the dumpster fire, or how to those who need to come out of one in THREE LESSONS…

So What Happened?
* 2020?!

* I was burnt.

* I took a break

* I re-focused

* I returned

End of January my family and I got COVID

March 26, 2020, like many of my colleagues and co-ministers, I was laid off due to the pandemic.

April 1, 2020 I had nothing better to do than to take a break

June 28, almost took another church, but it fell-through due to lies and incompetence.

July 5, I took time to heal, rest and continued to write my book (about my personal journey from hurt to healing).
September 2, 2020, I got a new job in another industry. Still doing Worship Team Training, but like thousands of others, we had a financial pause.

In the wake of the pandemic, societal, economic, political and ministerial disruptions, I inadvertently found rest - like the disciples who experienced peace after the storm.

It was tough, painful and tiring walking through the dumpster fire we know called 2020, now unseemingly heading into its big brother aka 2021.

POINT 1:
* MY ROLE -

    * I don't have to do everything

    * what is my role?

    * Is it defined enough?

    * Galatians 1:10

POINT 2:
* MY CALLING

    * I don't have to know everything: Then, what must I know?

    * I don't have all the answers or the expert / I don’t need to have all the right things to say.

    * I / You / We don’t need to be in the dream-place to be a minister / serve God

    * What becomes more important: serving God or the dream?

    * Matthew 6:24

POINT 3:
* MY LIMITS

* I / You don't have to be everything:

* We can only give so much

* what are my healthy boundaries/priorities?

    * The encourager, worship leader all the time, fill everyone's expectations?

    * “But if you don’t do it who will?” says the lie that keeps you in the dumpster

Or many take out of context 1 Cor 9.22 - be all things to all people, but what about Romans 14:1- which says: “Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on his opinions.” - meaning that you don’t judge someone else’s faith (in this case ministering) just because they may not serve your expectations

- CONCLUSION -

* WHAT CAN WE DO?

* DARE YOURSELF TO STOP DOING AND START BEING

* Stop Isolating or maybe you need to isolate and find rest - but don’t stay in the dumpster

* Don’t let the dumpster fire burn you, but let it purify you

* Don’t crawl on your knees, but have courage to stand up and walk into 2021

* Numbers 22.34 - if there is no reformation of the heart, how can there be a renovation of the life?

Some are in the fire of pressure and have been knocked down and lost hope. But despite the flames around them, there is the opportunity to see purpose. Because when you have purpose, you understand that the fire was part of the plan to refine you as gold. All the pain, all the struggle and all the weight you lift everyday is to make you stronger and to walk taller.

So that when you do go through the fire, God's got you where he wants you to be fire-proofed. You had to go through it, but you are better now. You are standing on the other side because you have purpose now. You are special and blessed in God's eyes to walk in His plan. You are already doing it because of His shelter that brings you through every time. Because even in the darkest night, his light always shines brighter.
